Notification spam warning
There is one behavior every ConfluClean administrator must understand before archiving content at scale.

When a page is archived, Confluence emails every watcher of that page. This is native Confluence behavior and cannot be suppressed by ConfluClean or any other app.
Why this happens
Archiving is a built-in Confluence action. Confluence treats it as a change worth notifying watchers about, and it sends those emails itself - before ConfluClean ever sees the result. No app has the ability to turn this off.
Why it matters
If you archive hundreds of pages at once, Confluence may send a large number of emails in a short time. On a busy instance with many watchers, this can feel like spam and generate support questions.
How to keep it under control
- Preview first. A dry-run tells you how many pages would be archived, so you can estimate the email volume before committing.
- Archive in planned batches. Use scheduled archiving to spread archiving over time instead of all at once.
- Communicate ahead of time. Let teams know a cleanup is coming so the emails are expected.
- Exclude noisy pages. Pages with very large watcher lists can be excluded or handled separately.
